We know little about John. His baptism is recorded at Manaccan, Cornwall on February 11th 1759 – thirteen months after his parents married. John appears in his father’s will, which states:
“First I give and bequeath to my son John Flindell one shilling to be paid at the end of one week after my death.”
It may therefore be assumed that he outlived his father; however, research to date has not validated this.
A late 18th century trade gazette listed a John Flindell, spectacle maker, in the region; however, further research indicated the source was Canadian and referred to a Canadian John Flindell. The probability is that this was not John, son of Thomas and Alice.
